Even though Leon’s suspicions were high, he stayed as it was his job. He didn’t want to risk the possibility of losing his job and it was the right thing to not go home. He walked upto the the workers who showed up and exclaimed boisterously, “Has everyone forgot to come to work today? What is going on?.” All of workers echoed leon's concerns, but they carried on with their work. Time passed fast while the men worked, and as the day creeped into darkness there was more and more commotion around and in town. As the men started to pack up and leave, military truck screeched down the road. Leon packed his things and started moving forward towards the street. He realized that this was the first car he had seen go by in a very long time. He strolled down the road for what seemed like seconds and reached the turn to mainstreet. As he turned the corner he his mouth fell open and he dropped his bag. A sight of cars seemed to stretch out for miles in the direction of West Berlin. He ran up to the closest car and asked, “Why aren’t any of these cars moving?” “The West Berlin army has put up a blockade to stop anyone from entering or leaving,” the driver replied. Leon put his hands to his face as if he were to wipe off the mistake he had made by staying. The run to the blockade was frantic and sweatless. The thought of being trapped away from his home terrified Leon. As he ran he repeated in his head, “I can’t stay here, I am trapped. I have no money or place to stay. What will I do?.” When he reached the the front of the car line he he joined the crowd of raving civilians. Every single person displayed looks of outrage on their faces to the newly built wall and the soldiers guarding it. He heard one person say, “The soldiers just appeared and told us no one would be able to pass. Then they started building. They are going to build a wall all the way around west berlin. Who knows if we'll ever be able to leave this place… I have a family I need to look after on the other side. They can’t seriously tell me I can’t go see them!” Leon frantically looked around. He saw a clearing in an alleyway 100 yards down the blockade. As he reached the open space he saw some crates and stacked them to get a look over the chain link fence blocking him. When he peeked his head over he saw armed soldiers patrolling with spotlights high on the fence. He didn’t see himself making it across to the other side of the fence, but he could still try his luck.
